Freedom is Mine

TITLE: Freedom is Mine

AUTHOR COMMENTARY:

This dance is about being trapped. It directly contradicts the music, which is about freedom and new beginnings. The dancers in this piece cannot break free or start anew. Because this is a dance, the story is told with the body, but each audience member is free to interpret the story however it moves him/her, creating a narrative of physical or mental limits that can hold humans back from experiencing freedom. At its core, it is about humanity’s relationship with limits. Sometimes we cling to them because they are safe and known. Sometimes we try to break free and something stops us. These limits are societal norms, our own expectations, other people, and the human body itself.
