AUTHOR COMMENTARY:

I am playing Orange Dawn by Ian Clarke. This piece explores how sounds travel in space. It pushes one to listen to where the sounds is coming from. The piece begins with otherworldly sounds. It pushes the limit of what we think the flute sounds like by changing fingerings of notes. Then it takes it to the next level by pushing the limit of how fast fingers and sounds can move. In the middle the flute line plays with the idea of spacial time. The down beat is clear, but who is playing all of the fast notes that come directly before? it seems that there is no limit to how these two instruments\’ sounds can be intertwined. Our ears confuse them and they become one. Accompanied by Louise Thomas.
