When we are children we assume we know all there is to know about our parents. There is a certain rite of passage as we start to see our parents as whole and separate human beings with lives, and even secrets, we know nothing about. This piece of flash fiction is about a young girl discovering her mother may not have been her father’s first love.

Leslie McCaddon is a junior in the creative writing program. She is a widow raising three children of her own plus four bonus children who technically belong to her widower fiance, but she isn’t one to be governed by technicalities. She loves to write about families, grief and injustice. When she’s not writing, socializing or doing homework, she’s most likely at Disneyland.
