Music has the power to influence the atmosphere we find ourselves in. The entire genre of ambient music exists as a method to transport the listener to a different space and influence their mood. This piece aims to create the illusion of being in a different place, and evokes a sense of living history. The hurdy-gurdy has been played from Spain to Iran, from the eleventh to nineteenth centuries. My piece uses key signature and cadenza to ground the listener in medieval western Europe, in a space that lasts only as long as the song itself.
